This information is communicated to you under section 67 of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cth) ('the TIA Act'), that is, for the Commission's 'permitted purpose'. This communication is connected with the Commission's investigation under the Corruption and Crime Commission Act 2003 (WA) of misconduct which includes evidence given at Commission public examinations. The Commission is empowered to conduct public examinations where, having weighed the benefits of public exposure and public awareness against the potential for prejudice or privacy infringements, it considers that it is in the public interest to do so. The benefits of public exposure and awareness obviously depend upon fair and accurate reporting of the Commission's proceedings.
