It’s a gift - no strings attached
How does the receipt of gifts and benefits impact on public officers doing their jobs? How to distinguish between a token gift and something which may be seen to have an influence on decision making? What are the requirements on public officers in relation to gifts and benefits? How does local government approach the issue of receiving gifts?
The forum is for those in supervisory and management roles in the public sector and local government. It will provide a brief overview of the legislative and policy framework, as well as address the practical issues agencies face in managing the receipt of gifts and benefits. The Commission will discuss the findings of its recent survey of the public sector and local government in relation to the purchase of toner cartridges and gifts offered for these purchases, focusing on the misconduct risks attached. There will also be an opportunity for you to put questions to a panel of the guest speakers.
