The Corruption and Crime Commission is conducting a preliminary investigation into the Town of Port Hedland’s handling of a proposal for a 6,000-bed temporary workers’ camp proposed by BHP near the town’s airport.
The Commission’s Acting Director Corruption Prevention, Tony Warwick, said allegations of misconduct had been received in regard to the Council’s handling of planning processes for the camp.
“This does not necessarily mean there has been misconduct by Council staff but rather that allegations have been made that need to be assessed.”
Mr Warwick said a media report that the Commission is taking no further action in regard to the allegations is inaccurate.
It is not known when the preliminary investigation will be completed
