Conflict of Interest: Workshop Resources for the W.A. Public Sector
The CCC has produced workshop resources to help individual public officers identify, manage and monitor any conflicts of interest that they may have. Public sector organisations are strongly encouraged to utilise these resources as part of promoting good governance and integrity.
There are a number of case studies in the resources which agencies can utilise to provide a practical demonstration of how to identify and manage a Conflict of Interest.
These workshop resources will provide users with:
- A better understanding of what a Conflict of Interest is and the ability to identify Conflict of Interest situations, whether they are actual, perceived or potential.
- Clarity as to your responsibilities as public officers to report and manage such conflicts.
- The knowledge to manage Conflicts of Interest appropriately so that they do not compromise your duties and responsibilities as a public officer or those of staff you supervise and manage.
Anti-corruption bodies in Australia estimate that mismanaged conflicts of interest underpin a large proportion of public sector misconduct. The key message about Conflict of Interests is that they are not necessarily wrong, but it's important that they are managed properly and transparently.
These workshop materials were adapted from the 'Conflict of Interest Guidelines for the Western Australian Public Sector' developed by the Integrity Coordinating Group, consisting of the CCC, Office of the Auditor General, Office of Public Sector Standards Commissioner and the Western Australian Ombudsman.
