Reporting Misconduct

What is Misconduct?

'Misconduct' is defined in Section 4 of the Act. It occurs if a public officer corruptly acts or corruptly fails to act in the performance of the functions of office or employment. Misconduct also occurs when a public officer corruptly takes advantage of their office or employment to obtain a benefit for themselves or others, or, whilst acting in official capacity commits an offence punishable by two or more years of imprisonment.

A public officer misusing official information or material, or breaching the trust placed in an officer, is acting corruptly.

About Complaints

Members of the public can lodge complaints about the conduct of Western Australian public officers including police officers as well as provide information that could be useful to investigations.

Reports from the public are an important source of information for the Corruption and Crime Commission. If the matter you raise is not something we normally handle, we will advise on how to take alternative action.

You do not have to give your name when you make a complaint but anonymous complaints are often difficult to investigate and we will not be able to tell you the outcome of our investigation.

There are heavy penalties for victimising or harassing people who make reports to the Corruption and Crime Commission.

Complaints can be made by letter, fax, telephone, email or in person.

If you have a complaint about the Operations of the Corruption and Crime Commission or the conduct of any of its officers, please contact the Parliamentary Inspector on (08) 9323 2222.
