Acquittal of Mr Michael Moodie

28/8/2008

28/8/08

The Corruption and Crime Commission is now looking at Magistrate Black’s reasons for his decision to acquit former Health Department executive, Mr Michael Moodie, of 50 charges of forging and 50 of uttering.

Director of Operations, Nick Anticich, said the decision to prosecute was taken by the Commission following advice from senior Commission lawyers.

“Since its establishment, the Commission has commenced and conducted a number of prosecutions in the Magistrates Court.

“As has occurred with 19 Commission prosecutions involving multiple charges commenced in the Magistrates Court over the last 20 months, the decision to prosecute Mr Moodie was taken by the Commission without reference to the DPP.”

Mr Anticich denied suggestions that the decision to charge Mr Moodie had been influenced by outside parties.
