Misconduct Resistance: Managing Misconduct Complaints: Continuous Improvement or Heads on Stakes?
The Commission hosted the fourth Misconduct Resistance Practitioner Forum on 2 September 2009 at the University Club of Western Australia. The Forum addressed the issue of misconduct complaints handling, and specifically how effective handling systems can contribute to the improvement of business outcomes. Presentations were made by three agencies at different stages in establishing misconduct complaints handling systems. Each agency spoke about their journey – where they started and why; the models and approaches they adopted as the best fit for their organisations; and the business benefits achieved. Practical tips on the pitfalls and problems encountered, and how these were addressed, were also shared.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE PRESENTER: Ross Tomasini, District Superintendent Mid West-Gascoyne District
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING PRESENTER: Paul O’Connor, Executive Director Professional Standards and Conduct
DEPARTMENT FOR CHILD PROTECTION PRESENTER: Sandy Randall, A/Director Integrity and Screening Unit
Directly after their presentations Ross, Paul and Sandy participated in a panel discussion and answered questions from the audience.
Following a break for morning tea and networking, Ms Barb Wood from the UWA Business School facilitated an Open Space workshop. The workshop enabled participants to explore and discuss implementation issues arising from the presentations of most concern to them, focusing on practical solutions.
