Learning and development opportunities

Recognising how important our people are we are committed to continually enhancing their capability. Our people have access to a wide range of learning, development and training opportunities to support both the needs of the business and their individual career aspirations. Developing our workforce also helps to build capability across the public sector, as many will transition into other roles across the sector after their time with us.

Our Learning and Development Framework outlines a targeted and coordinated approach to learning and development, ensuring compliance obligations and workforce capabilities are met now and in the future. Each position at the Commission has an established learning and development plan that details the role-specific technical and core skill training required to remain contemporary. We actively encourage and support our people's experiential and social learning (ie through coaching, mentoring and on the job opportunities) as well as formal learning through structured courses and workshops. Examples of how we support the learning and development of our people include:

  • secondments (within or outside the WA public sector)
  • annual study scholarships (relevant to the role)
  • support for our people to secure funded public sector scholarships (eg Executive Master of Public Administration)
  • funded opportunities to support continuous professional development
  • technical and professional training (relevant to the role)
  • coaching and mentoring.

Our leadership philosophy is 'to lead from where you are' and we support this approach by developing our people's skills in leading self; leading others; and leading the organisation. Structured leadership development programs are offered across all levels and have included:

  • Executive Leadership Development program
  • Senior and Emerging Leadership Development program
  • Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
