Oversight
Public sector agencies are principally responsible for preventing, identifying and responding to misconduct risks.
It is a function of the CCC to ensure an allegation of serious misconduct is dealt with in an appropriate way.
One way the CCC achieves this is through the monitoring of action taken by public sector agencies in relation to allegations of serious misconduct referred to them by the CCC.
When the CCC refers an allegation to a public sector agency for action, the public sector agency is required to prepare and provide the CCC with a detailed report of the action taken, as soon as practicable after the action is taken.
The report should detail the actions taken by the appropriate authority in response to the allegation of serious misconduct, including any investigative and/or disciplinary measures, as well as the outcome or conclusions reached.
Upon receipt of the closure report, the CCC considers the steps taken by the appropriate authority and, in some instances, may decide to conduct a review of the public sector agency's process.
