The Corruption and Crime Commission has paid tribute to its Chief Executive, Ray Warnes, who died this week, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Mr Warnes served the public sector in senior roles for more than 30 years and took up the Chief Executive role at the Commission in 2015 after many years driving major reform at the Department of Justice.
His contribution to the State was recognised in June 2022 when he joined an elite group of Western Australian public servants to be honoured with a Public Service Medal.
Corruption and Crime Commissioner, John McKechnie, said Mr Warnes was an exceptional leader and a fine man who would be much missed by all his colleagues at the Commission.
“Ray Warnes was the consummate ‘quiet achiever’, a much-valued adviser and a strong, transformative leader,” said Commissioner McKechnie. “He was a man of great integrity who demonstrated unwavering commitment and loyalty to the public sector, and to the Commission.
“Ray’s passing will be widely felt, however our thoughts are particularly with Ray’s family.”
