In the lead-up to International Anti-Corruption Day (9 December), it is time to think about how corruption may be affecting you.
There’s nothing new about the concept of corruption. That famous saying – that “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” was penned in the late 1800s.
What is constantly evolving is how corruption shows up in the public service and among people doing business with it. The other constant reality is how corruption can pervade all levels of the public service and can impact everyone - often without anyone realising.
International Anti-Corruption Day is a chance to consider the personal impact corruption may be having on you, and to make a commitment to help stamp it out.
To coincide with International Anti-Corruption Day, the Corruption and Crime and Commission has launched a short video showcasing how corruption can affect anyone.
Check out the video below and consider if you have found yourself in any of the situations?
If so, you may have witnessed corruption. For your own sake, do the right thing and speak up.
If you have a reasonable suspicion that corruption is taking place in the WA public sector, make a confidential allegation now.
